The acoustic monitoring system for the four airports that are managed by Aeroporti di Puglia S.p.A. It represents an effective and flexible tool for managing noise pollution, particularly for analyzing the environmental impact of aircraft noise as well as for planning flight paths and airport operations.
The system is based on the SARA product (Sistema di Analisi del Rumore Aeroportuale ) meaning Airport Noise Analysis System by Softech, which has a structure defined by four components:
1) The Peripheral Noise Monitoring System
The peripheral noise monitoring and acquisition system at the four airports managed by Aeroporti di Puglia S.p.A. consists on several monitoring stations permanent and mobile all equipped with a sound level measurement chain (microphone + sound level meter), a management component for processing the received information, and a data transmission component that sends the data to the central system. Currently, the noise monitoring stations installed at the four airports are:
2) The Peripheral Aircraft Tracking System
The acoustic monitoring system correlates the data collected by the monitoring stations with the flight paths followed by the aircraft, in order to determine the contribution of each aircraft to the overall perceived noise levels.
The system uses both radar tracks provided by ENAV and data from ADS-B receivers installed at all airports.
3) The Communication Network
The acoustic monitoring stations and the ADS-B receivers both use the 4G/5G wireless network to transmit data to the central system.
The access to the monitoring system software is web-based and can be done using a standard Internet browser.
4) The Central Processing System
The acoustic monitoring system software is installed on a cloud platform, which receives all information collected from the monitoring stations, ADS-B receivers, ENAV, and from ADP itself (regarding the list of flight operations).
The collected and processed data is stored in a Microsoft SQL Server database, which is also cloud-based.
The access to the central processing system is web-based and available to system management technicians (from ADP and Softech) and also for users (such as ARPA Puglia), who monitor normalized data and query the system for correlations between acoustic events and aircraft operations.
The certified and normalized data is made available to the public through the Aeroporti di Puglia website and is organized into the following sections:
There is also a dedicated section for “REPORTS AND COMPLAINTS” related to aircraft noise. The submitted data is stored for subsequent evaluation by ADP. Based on the noise-related complaint, ADP will provide the requested clarifications or information.
Attention: Any other reports not regarding aircraft noise should be submitted using the following form.
